The modernity of his pictures has been languishing for a long time in the shadow of oblivion but today this modernity is clearly visible. If there is a line that joins Vermeer and Hopper that line is called Vilhelm Hammershoi. But beware, because it’s a line that reaches us. And silently creeps into our heart.
“He is not one of those one need talk about in a rush. His work is long and slow and at whatever moment one turns to it, it will always offer ample reason to talk about the most crucial and fundamental things in art.” (Rainer M. Rilke, 1905 )
